The body of a 21-year-old man was found in the waters near PAssion Wave @ Bedok Reservoir on Tuesday (Nov 21, 2023) morning, the police said.

Several personal items such as a black backpack and a yellow stuffed toy were found on the reservoir bank. Three bottles of alcohol as well as a packet of snacks were placed on the nearby steps, reported Shin Min Daily News.

Additionally, a black bicycle was found lying on the grass beside the reservoir.

In response to AsiaOne’s queries, the police said they were alerted to a case of suspected drowning at Bedok Reservoir at around 9.05am on Tuesday.

The body of a 21-year-old man was subsequently found and retrieved from the waters, and the man was pronounced dead on scene by a paramedic from the Singapore Civil Defence Force.

Based on preliminary investigations, the police do not suspect foul play. Investigations are ongoing.

Again?

A return after some eight drownings in Bedok Reservoir. No drowning there for at least more than ten years.

It was peaceful. Now another drowning.

May his soul remain RIP, and may he be reborn into a good family.

========

.

Former foreign minister George Yeo organised the major religions and they gathered there to pray and purify the place in 2011.   [please see photo below].

But drowning did not stop.

We did our best to bless the place over seven Friday nights in seven weeks.

Oh no, now back to square one. Sad.

==========

In the past few years, drowning were at Singapore River and Kallang River, not at Bedok Reservoir. Not it is back. Sad.

From 2012 to 2023, no drowning at Bedok Reservoir until two days ago. Sad.

==========

.

We did the following spiritual purification in Singapore:

We purified the traffic-light junction at Bugis Junction Shopping Mall for 7 Friday nights in a row where a Ferrari rammed into a taxi and a few people died. We were told that two workers died below [underground] at that traffic junction too when the construction of the MRT station had an accident there a few years ago.

We purified the traffic-light junction at Lavender Street/Victoria Road, Singapore; and the middle-divider of the section of the Balestier Road outside Shaw Plaza.

Also, we purified the Bedok Reservoir, Singapore from the wooden-platform landing for 7 Friday nights in a row as the suicide incidents did not stop. Before our 7 Friday night purifications, various religions in a group prayed on the bank of the reservoir a few weeks earlier on [please see photo and report below.]

Note: There is no charge or fee for the purification. No one has to even pay for transport cost. Not even a drop of water or drink has to be provided. Nothing. It is an altruistic service for the sake of spiritual salvation of souls in the unseen world, and to the soul and physical aspect of human beings on earth, the visible realm. The souls of the unseen realm are alive and they watch everything going on in the physical realm, both good and bad deeds of human beings. Spiritual salvation is important for mankind as every human life is precious. All seek happiness not unhappiness. Our mission is to purify and fill this earth with only happy people through spiritual salvation. Please ask for spiritual purification. It is free, at not cost.

.

We do not only offer words of prayer but most importantly give the Divine Light of spiritual purification to the spirits.

Divine Light is also for all living things.

We receive and give the Divine Light to each other everyday.

Everyone can receive the Divine Light no matter what is their belief or no belief or denomination.

We hope more human beings will seek and receive the Divine Light for spiritual purification. Please ask. It is free.

Accidental tragic deaths. May the souls remain RIP, and may they be reborn into good families. Some believe, or half the world’s population [as Christianity and the Islamic faiths, both believe no return after death, one way ticket only], do not accept that there is life in and after astral birth, and that many will be reborn into good families. How many ancestors do we have in 100 generations or 100,000 generations? It will be jammed packed. We will have no chance as the Q is super long in the astral world if souls are not ‘recycled’ and ‘returned’.

Death due to accident is no accident.

There is no accident on earth.  It is a major cleansing arrangement.

“Arrangement” is made so simply and easily for humans to walk into it.

It is settlement of past account.

It will mean the principle of balance for absolute fairness will have strict rules for humans able to use the APIS. As human beings, we live using two aspects: the unseen aspect in us; and the seen aspect that we call our physical body.

Both have to unite in the principle of balance for us to live every moment of the day safely.

Let us respect both aspects in gratitude that we are alive in the flesh.

.

=====================

.

We have been told that:

[a] the parents [father first being head of the family, and the mother] of each family must make efforts for their spiritual realm [spiritual conditions] to become pure and bright first; if not, the parents and their descendants [children, grandchildren, etc] will not be able to avoid undergoing cleansing phenomena;

In other words, in extremely difficult situations of severe ailments [cleansing phenomena], the unconditional and absolute whole-hearted dedication and efforts of the father [even to sacrifice in many ways in gratitude and apologies] will be necessary;

There will be a vast difference in destiny of a family compared to another when there is complete devotion of dedicated efforts and willpower. Half-hearted and inconsistent dedication will not be enough.

[b] likewise to attain world peace, all efforts will be in vain unless humans make efforts to purify the spiritual realm first.

Unless this comes first, no matter how ardently humans pray and talk about world peace, it will all come to nothing.

[c] therefore, whether it is about an individual, a family, a nation or even all humankind, mankind must make efforts to ensure that the spiritual realm must first become pure and bright.

The opposite is a world that is gloomy and dark, and that will mean unhappiness and more suffering.

When more humans apologise [offer sorry prayers and make efforts spiritually], the world will by itself become peaceful.

This is the only path, the only way, to transform the world from going through cycles of construction and destruction, to become a peaceful world for humans to live in unity, love and harmony not only among humans but with nature and the environment.

An environment in degradation will not bring happiness to mankind. It will bring conflict, division and unhappiness rather than unity, love and harmony.

Head injuries. What are the tell-tale signs? How not to fall [not about only avoiding or preventing] and injure one’s head again?

When a person falls backward and hits the head [the higher part of a person’s body], and when it is related to one’s ancestors, it is a warning sign from one’s ancestors for the person to look up, not down.

Look up means look at ancestors and look at God [both higher than the self] and apologise to them in one’s prayers to God.

================

Hit on the back of head, we are told, means not to look at the past events of one’s life.

Look at the present, and look forward to the future, not look at the past.

=========

There is no accident on earth.

A fall is a fall no matter how it has happened, and there are causes and effects of a fall.

A fall on to one’s knees, it is a sign for one to go down on one’s knees physically, and pray to God [in humility] and pray on one’s ancestor’s behalf to God in apologies, with words of sorry, very sorry sincerely in repentance and remorse.

===============

In one’s prayers to God to apologise to one’s ancestors and to God, please do add in and say sorry on behalf of one’s ancestors.

Apologise on one’s ancestors’ behalf for their past wrong doings for having caused pain, suffering and unhappiness on others.

===============

Not many human beings can apologise on behalf of one’s ancestors when praying to God.

It will be most unfortunate when they can’t.

Words of apologies and sorry are hard to come by for many, though it is not so difficult to do so really.

It will not cost the person a limb or a leg or tons of dollars to do so.

It will not be a traitorous act against one’s belief or religion to pray and apologise for one’s ancestors’ misdeeds.

Yet, many stubbornly cannot do so, and be accepting in humility for the benefit of their ancestors. Sad indeed.

============

To apologise on behalf of our ancestors in one’s prayers to God, but who are one’s ancestors?

For a married lady, the person’s ancestors are those of her husband’s, and those of herself. Both sides’ ancestors.

For a single lady, single, unmarried, the person’s ancestors are those who are the person’s own deceased parents, grandparents, etc.

For a divorced lady, the person’s ancestors are her own deceased parents, grandparents, etc.

======

I hope many around the world reading the above can be awakened to our ancestor’s deep spiritual impurities [due to their evil deeds and/or wrongdoings], and the causal effect on our withered soul even for some at time of birth [deformity at birth], not to say the negative impact on many [it is a universal law applicable on all mankind, no one will be spared] while they are growing up.

The impact will come based on the principle of echo, action and reaction, and principle of balance to cleanse the evilness in humankind. It is unavoidable and inevitable as it is the unchangeable universal law for everyone to live with, and be cleansed off the impurities to prolong one’s life. This law is out of great love for mankind’s well-being for which all human beings must be forever grateful for.

So grateful, I was asked to read the English text for the Miuta offered at the morning 9am opening prayers at Dojo on 15th Feb 2021. Pages 238 and 239 of PB.  The verses are:
.
To be born or to die is to go from one place to another. Thus, the life of the soul is eternal.
.
In the most profound depths of the physical body, I have seen a deeper reality – the true self, which, though invisible, enables human beings to exist eternally.
.
Those who allow the physical body with its physical form to rule their lives will see their search for happiness come to naught, nothing.
.
Although sometimes said to be non-existent, and empty, there is a realm that truly exists, and that realm is the source of the power of life, law and creation.
.

The unseen watches us and has direct influence. Who from the unseen watch over us 24/7 every second, day and night?

It will be great if those who watch over us 24/7 second by second, moment to moment are not only God, but also holy masters and great deities. But ….but…it can be true and yet untrue. Why?

Who will have holy masters and great deities to watch over them all the time? The person has to be supremely special to enjoy these privileges, and I doubt many have it.

To me, we have been told, our ancestors, and it is our own ancestors who are slightly higher than us in spiritual quality, and they are directing and watching over us.

They are the direct and immediate parties from the unseen world watching over us. To have higher spiritual beings to watch over us, I should say let us first make efforts to elevate our spiritual qualities step by step. It is guaranteed by the Unseen and the Divine that all humans can change into divine character. The saying that no one can change one’s character must be re-examined and history has to be rewritten.

Character can be changed. But there are strict rules for it. It needs lots of efforts. It needs humans to clean up lots of the impurities of the past, and by everyone, one by one. It might take not only this lifetime for some to erase their impurities as some of it could be very evil and heinous indeed that cannot be easily erased.

Some believe kindness will be enough.to erase impurities. Some believe money offering will be enough. We are dealing with the unseen and human thinking about this is like mankind trying to fart against thunder in their beliefs that past impurities could be erased easily by mankind. It is further from the truth. It is true and yet untrue.

Wake up guys. Wokeism to face the realities of life as space and time principles decide our fate in every step we take, whether a bird dropping will fall on our head, or when we step on dog shit, or when there is an accident, some will say near miss, lucky. Second or minute difference in time or cm or metre difference by gap and distance will decide our fate in an accident.
.

======
.
Free and yet not free.   Some continue to ask for freedom of speech and freedom of expression.

There is no absolute freedom. There is no total freedom.

There are limitations and restrictions to freedom.

Look around us. Some of our loved ones, friends and relatives do not enjoy freedom, which is given to mankind.
Some know how to get around the restrictions. Some don’t and pay a high price in suffering.
Some move on despite the restrictions and attain freedom. But some don’t.

Some remain static, and they continue suffering unable to truly break free.
Some will bring the suffering with them at death. The suffering could be deep hatred, anguish, dissatisfaction, no forgiveness, no remorse, no contrition, no repentance, but only deep resentment. It goes with them at death.

Very sad for some to be in this situation, unable to rise and be freed of unhappiness when all humans seek happiness 24/7. No one will seek more unhappiness.

No one works hard in a lifetime to ask for more unhappiness for the self. All seek happiness.

Not many families have harmony, not even for some at the top in society, having great wealth and status, but no harmony in the family.
They swear at one another, some on Facebook, some on the phone, some via Internet. Very sad.

Those who have family harmony, please be grateful, and not take harmony for granted. Treasure your family harmony. Family harmony is worth more than gold.

It is not easy for some to attain family harmony. The seeds of friction have been planted by their ancestors and for the descendants to reap the harvest of hatred and bitterness in friction and conflict in this lifetime.

They are brought together in the same family to settle old accounts, old scores.

But who are the ancestors, who planted the bad seeds for the descendants to have friction? The super intelligent should know the answer to this question.

Lucky, some in deep hatred and in disharmony do not end in killing each other this lifetime. Some do. Some ended in bloodshed. Very sad for them.

Let us respect human life. Every human being is precious, including our own life. It is precious too.

Charitable people….

What else is missing in kindness?

Sadly, there are some practising kindness all their adult life and yet some end up with all kinds of suffering themselves, e.g. sickness, ailment, rare disease, etc. Why?

They must be asking, why?

And they will continue asking what is the missing link for them not able to get rid of the payback/settlement in various forms and types affecting their life.

Rather than ban HPS cars or have ‘road-calming and restrictive measures to prevent speeding,  I suggest LTA  do the following:

[1] open up the old Upper Thomson Rd [the curvy stretch], Lim Chu Kang Road, or even an unused Changi Airport runway [ensure adequate safety and security] and charge a usage fee;

[2] allow those who have not committed a traffic offence to pay and use it;

[3] those who have committed speeding offence/s on public road should be given hefty fine, and have their car confiscated as well for 1, 2, 3 months for repeated offence.

Traffic Police exploring enforcement, ‘road-calming measures’ in Tanjong Pagar after fatal car crash

The Traffic Police said they would explore further enforcement operations in the area as well as road-calming measures.

SINGAPORE – The Traffic Police are studying the situation in Tanjong Pagar in the wake of a car crash in the area that killed five.

MPs for the area said they welcomed extra measures to deal with speeding, with residents saying that the roaring sounds of speeding cars has kept them awake at odd hours.

The Traffic Police told The Straits Times that they would explore further enforcement operations in the vicinity, as well as road-calming measures. This refers to measures to slow traffic down, including the use of road humps and speed regulating strips.

The accident that took place early on Saturday – the second day of Chinese New Year – saw a BMW slamming into a vacant shophouse along Tanjong Pagar Road and bursting into flames, killing all five men on board. The speed limit along the stretch is 50kmh.

This is the highest number of people killed in a single traffic accident in the past decade.

The Traffic Police also noted that enforcement operations are stepped up around the festive season, “consistent with past years”, although the number of such operations was not disclosed.

Residents told ST that speeding cars have long been a disturbance.

A resident of a public housing flat at Block 7 Tanjong Pagar Plaza, which is a five-minute walk to the accident site, said: “Cars can usually be heard speeding from 1am onwards and my sleep is often disrupted by the noise of their engines.”

The 58-year-old retiree, who wanted to be known as Mr Aung, has lived on the 22nd floor for about 30 years. He added that the circuit-breaker was a temporary respite, but noise levels have gradually returned since Covid-19 measures eased.

A woman living on the 10th floor, who wanted to be known as Ms Siew, said that her sleep has been disrupted with greater frequency in the past five years.

“I wake up to the noise, which usually happens between 1am and 2am, at least once or twice a week,” said the 51-year-old business executive, whose bedroom overlooks Tanjong Pagar road.

Their MP, Minister in the Prime Minister’s Office Indranee Rajah, said that noise complaints about speeding or racing that she has received were mostly in the Cantonment Road vicinity.

She highlighted several solutions such as adding traffic cameras or including speed bumps to encourage drivers to slow down.

However, she pointed out: “You must remember that whatever you do, whether it is speed bumps or anything else, (it) affects all traffic at all hours.”

She has asked the Traffic Police to look into the issue of speeding, and work with the Land Transport Authority.

The crash site at 37 Tanjong Pagar Road falls within the Kreta Ayer-Kim Seng ward in Jalan Besar, which Manpower Minister Josephine Teo is MP for.

“This is a tragic accident and I’m very saddened for the families. I hope they will remain strong in their grief,” she told ST.

“Clearly, speeding along any stretch of road is a concern. I would welcome a review by the Traffic Police on additional measures that may be needed to prevent speeding around the area.”

I am grateful to Today Voices for publishing my letter though heavy edited.

The embedded lights on the roads have been in use in the city of Brisbane for more than 10 years now. It is switched on 24/7.

I have given feedback on this, and I hope my wait all these years will not continue to be in vain.

My wait on the use of the flexible brightly-coloured poles on our expressways was not in vain. The first trial-use by LTA was at the Kallang Way exit on the PIE.

For motorists’ safety, expand trials of lighted road markings

PUBLISHED:  MAY 12, 2017 in Today Voices

I was relieved and elated to read “LTA tests lighted crossings to improve pedestrian safety” (May 10). Some countries have had lighted or glowing line markings on the road for some years now to guide drivers safely.

Singapore has been playing catch-up in many aspects of road management practices to improve road safety.

For example, it took us years, after continuous public feedback, to place plastic poles on our roads. The idea was initially rejected for one reason or another, even though a number of Australian cities had been using them.

But the wait was not in vain, as I see more poles striped in yellow and black on our roads. Now, I hope that the Land Transport Authority will take another step forward.

Although the light-emitting diode (LED) strips on the pavements, for the safety of mobile phone users, is a trial, I hope that the LTA will visit cities that use other lighted markings embedded in road surfaces.

It may not be cheap to install more LED lights at many of our traffic junctions, but more important than the cost is our attitude. Let us learn from and follow others.

I hope that lighted lines on our roads, such as at selected busy or accident-prone places, will not take long to see the light of day in Singapore, for the safety of motorists.

.

.

Original text of my letter:

In great relief and elation, I refer to “New flashing LED strips for pedestrians at 2 traffic-light crossings” in Today, 10th May 2017.

In Brisbane, there have been lighted lines on road surface for over 10 years now to guide drivers to drive safely.

Red Dot is behind time in many aspects of road management practices to improve road safety.

For example, Australian cities use the yellow/black plastic poles on their roads.

After continuous public feedback, it took Red Dot some 10 years later to place the poles on our expressways. The first trial-use was at Kallang Way exit on the PIE.

Initially, LTA rejected the poles for one reason or another saying that it could cause more accidents as some of our drivers are impatient and reckless on our roads.

Our wait was not in vain as I see more poles mushrooming on our roads as LTA has gained more traction and confidence.

Next, I hope LTA will take another bold step forward. They should visit and learn from Brisbane to see the safety in the use of lighted lines embedded on road surface.

I too hope our wait will not be in vain as LTA has taken a positive step forward although it is an initial trial-test by installing LED lights on the pavements for safety of mobile phone users.

It will not be cheap to install more LED lights at many of our traffic light junctions.

More importantly, it is not the cost but a good start for LTA to have attitude change, and not be intransigent but follow and learn from others.

I hope that lighted lines embedded on our roads for the safety of drivers, at selected busy or accident-prone places, will not be far away for it to see the light of day in Singapore.

LED lights send wrong message to ‘smartphone zombies’

The use of LED lights on pavements sends a negative message that “smartphone zombies” no longer have to look up to know when to cross the road (Floor lights help ‘smartphone zombies’ keep eye on the road; May 10).

It suggests that using smartphones when crossing roads is not something to be discouraged.

Efforts should be expended to raise awareness among pedestrians about the dangers of keeping their eyes glued to their smartphones, and of the need to concentrate fully on the surrounding traffic.

It might also be a good idea to erect signs to remind the public of this.

Road accidents can happen anywhere, and it would incur a huge sum of money to install such LED lights at all pedestrian crossings islandwide.

Hotel New World, Serangoon Road, Singapore.

We know this place well.

A group of us went to the new hotel built on the same plot of land to purify the new place with the Baptism by Spirit.

The new owner’s daughter sought our help to purify the place as they were at their wit’s end as the hotel staff and hotel guests saw apparitions.

We visited the place at least more than 15 years ago.

The new owners are Christians, and they invited priests to bless the place. But the unhappy apparitions are too strong to overcome easily by one or two visits. We went there in a group.

It was the same when we visited to purify the Bedok Reservoir, the junction outside the Bugis Junction shopping mall at Victoria Street, and recently No. 37 Tanjong Pagar Road.

Eastern and Western civilisations. Both complement each other like a pair of hands.
Google what is US’s ultimate aim in their China Task Force Report.
What will replace communism and capitalism ultimately for world peace not to remain a dream, despite day and night prayers, but to no avail or hope of materialising?
Who among humans will wake up to face the reality of this worldwide emergency, and ask why mankind is now undergoing a very severe time never seen before for a thousand years in the history of human beings.
First, what are the solutions as humans head into impasse, dead end and deadlock and ask what are the causes?
It is greed. Greed for fossil oil, LNG and coal.
End it all, and it will bring humans to the first step of sanity and will open the door for all to have a glimpse for love, peace and harmony among man to appear at last.

Navigating the troubled waters as turbulence rises in today’s world
The unravelling of the rules-based global order comes just when we need more, not less, collaboration.
Warren Fernandez
Editor-in-Chief

PUBLISHED 2 HOURS AGO on 3rd July 2022 in Sunday Times.
Sooner or later, it was bound to happen. The new season of the popular Netflix political series, Borgen, sees the Danish politician Birgitte Nyborg, as Foreign Minister, caught in the middle of an international stand-off between the United States and China.
The issue is, ostensibly, oil. A huge discovery of the fossil fuel in Greenland, which is part of Denmark, takes on global significance when a Chinese company muscles in on the drilling rights. But oil is not its primary concern. Its sights are on access to the Arctic, and building landing sites for “bigger ships” in the area.
Enter Birgitte, who fends off pressure to “make the problem go away” from her American allies, even as China’s diplomats seek to remind her “who her friends really are”, after slipping her information to help fend off her political rivals.
Meanwhile, US fighter jets begin whizzing through the Greenland skies, a Chinese drone crashes in the area by accident, and a tense stand-off ensues between Danish and Russian soldiers.
It all makes for compelling viewing, not least since the narrative has such an air of plausibility to it.
Indeed, given the current spiral in global tensions, I imagine it cannot be long before we see a new Bond movie where 007 takes on menacing agents from an authoritarian state in Asia, just as the Soviets often featured at the height of the Cold War.
Art reflecting reality? Fact or fiction? Soft propaganda? It is becoming harder to say these days as the world drifts into ever more dangerous geopolitical terrain.
The process has been under way for some time, but historians might one day mark Feb 24, 2022, as the turning point when the neoliberal, internationalist, globalisation era as we knew it ended.
That day, Russian President Vladimir Putin took the fateful decision to send his troops into Ukraine, supposedly to set right historical wrongs and avenge Western slights.
What ensued is a sorry tale even Hollywood’s scriptwriters might not have dreamt up: missiles raining down on Ukrainian cities; millions forced to flee; tougher-than-anyone-expected economic sanctions inflicting pressure on Russia but also causing energy and food prices to skyrocket everywhere; and inevitably, social and political unrest breaking out in some of the world’s most vulnerable countries.
Lamentably, positions appear to be hardening all round as a result.
The initially vague “no-limits” partnership between Moscow and Beijing, announced weeks before the Russian invasion, is being fleshed out by events, prompting a vicious circle of reaction and counter-reaction, that no one benefits from.
There is no mistaking the anger among Western leaders at China for neither criticising Mr Putin for the war he unleashed nor helping to impose a price for his actions. This has sparked a rethink about China, reflected in the tough talk between military chiefs and diplomats at the recent Shangri-La Dialogue here. China was also a hot topic of conversations among vexed business leaders at the May meeting of the World Economic Forum in Davos.

Last week, Nato countries – with leaders from Japan and South Korea joining their summit for the first time – upped the ante by declaring China a “systemic challenge” that threatens their interests, security and values.
Hardly surprisingly, a quick riposte followed, with Chinese officials hitting back at Nato’s “Cold War thinking and ideological bias”. Days earlier, President Xi Jinping had made plain in a speech that Beijing would keep working with Russia, supporting each other on their respective core interests on security and sovereignty. He also called out countries for abusing their “dominant position to weaponise the world economy”, and urged others to “fight against the hegemony of any one country”.
So, like it or not, it is becoming clear to most observers that the fault lines between the two major powers in the East and the West are now more starkly defined, and deepening. The old, hopeful premise that trade, technology and other exchanges would help bring them closer together, and foster collaboration, seems, alas, like so much wishful thinking.
Financial Times columnist Martin Wolf said in a column last week that “we are now moving into a new era of world disorder”, one he characterised as a “third epoch in the history of the post-war global economic order”, while the Economist magazine noted how the pandemic and the Ukraine war have triggered “a once-in-a-generation re-imagining of global capitalism in boardrooms and governments”.
“Everywhere you look, supply chains are being transformed, from the US$9 trillion (S$12.6 trillion) in inventories, stockpiled as insurance against shortages and inflation, to the fight for workers as global firms shift from China into Vietnam. This new kind of globalisation is about security, not efficiency; it prioritises doing business with people you can rely on, in countries your government is friendly with.”

Ukraine war fallout: Polarised global economy could break into distinct blocs
Does Russia’s war in Ukraine mean the end of globalisation?
In the same vein, author and founder of consulting firm Eurasia Group, Ian Bremmer, thinks the world is in a “geopolitical recession”, or a “bust cycle” for international cooperation.
He reckons that a prime reason for this is that today’s global institutions are not up to the huge challenges the planet faces – from climate change to the pandemic to the Russian invasion – as they are out of whack with the shifts in power balances in the world.
In his new book, The Power Of Crisis: How Three Threats – And Our Response – Will Change The World, he goes on to argue that, given the sheer scale and urgency of the challenges the world faces, “necessity must now become the mother of cooperation”.
I would like to hope so, but frankly, it is hard to be so sanguine. Indeed, some years ago, at the height of the Trump presidency, Ian and I held a Facebook discussion about where geopolitics was heading. Then, he was championing his idea of a “GZero world”. Given that the G-8 or G-20 groups, or even a G2 concert between Washington and Beijing, appeared to be languishing, he contended that the world was drifting into a leaderless and rudderless state.
In response, I suggested that perhaps the world might be entering more of a GX phase, with X representing the informal and inchoate groupings of like-minded countries that might emerge on specific issues of common interests, such as security or trade.
There was no shortage of examples, from the alphabet soup of trade pacts with hard-to- distinguish acronyms such as TPP, CPTPP and RCEP. More recently, we have seen new partnerships, such as the Quad, the Indo-Pacific Economic Framework, or China’s pursuit of a security pact with the Pacific islands, each with its own participants and purposes.
Both of us recognised then that such a fluid state of global affairs was likely to be inherently unpredictable and unstable, as well as very uncomfortable for most countries, not least small states like Singapore, so dependent on security and trade to survive and prosper.
ST ILLUSTRATION: MANNY FRANCISCO
So, certainly, it is hard to disagree with Ian’s assertion in his latest book on the pressing need for reform of international institutions to suit the realities of today. But just how to get from here to there seems to me to be the tricky part.
Take, for example, the much vaunted idea of an “Asia for Asians” that some are touting. It sounds grand, and will no doubt appeal to those who welcome the idea of Asians being masters of their own futures and fortunes.
Yet, ironically, this too reflects the outmoded “bloc politics” that China officials often rail against.
Besides, Japan, India, South Korea, Indonesia, Vietnam, Asean and others would all no doubt wish to have their say on how things are to be ordered in such an Asians-only set-up, rather than simply accepting the view from Beijing.
Other powers further afield, also reliant on the goods and resources that flow through these vital Asian trading routes, will inevitably have an interest in its future too.
Which is why there was wisdom in the international, rules-based, global order, which was painstakingly fashioned to try to avoid a repeat of the follies of the last world war. For all its faults and failings, it was a boon for so many, delivering peace and prosperity for decades, making it possible for many Asian countries to develop.
In other words, to paraphrase a quote attributed to Churchill about democracy, the global order might have been the worst form of government – except for all the others that seem to have been tried.
Its unravelling is unfortunate and untimely, given how the grave challenges facing all of us on the planet call for more collaboration among countries, not greater geopolitical or ideological contestation.

The inexorable drift towards an Asian Nato
So what is to be done? How best might Singapore deal with the rising tensions?
As a small, fledgling sovereign state, with close ties to all sides, it must continue to be a voice of rationality, using where it can its neutral position to bring together and remind all players of their shared responsibilities to the people of the world.
Yet, even as it does so, it will have to recognise the world as it is, and adapt to the changing circumstances, like it or not. Perhaps it is worth remembering that while the Republic was one of the biggest beneficiaries of globalisation, it did manage to seek out opportunities and make progress even at the height of the Cold War, when the world was split into separate trade and ideological blocs. We will have to do it again.
Second, work harder at strengthening our internal cohesion, which some seem to take for granted. Singaporeans must speak for Singapore, and no one else, always bearing in mind its deep and lingering fault lines. These can easily be prodded and prised open by visceral appeals to race and religion, cultural or historical ties, that could tear us apart.
Third, recognise that such forces are indeed at work, seeking to sway public sentiment, rattle our people, and pressure our leaders, in order to check and constrain Singapore’s room to manoeuvre politically and diplomatically. Such influence operations are not new, but they have been amped up through the widespread use of social media and smartphones. Expect more of this, especially in the face of our current leadership transition. Our best defence is a heightened awareness among our people of such efforts to divide us, by players on all sides.
Feel you need a good catch-me-up on the art of geopolitical power play? Well, you could start by binge-watching Borgen: The Power And The Glory.
It makes for engaging viewing. But, alas, how much more enjoyable it would have been if it did not seem so close to today’s troubling realities.

Prayers for safer Durban roads in South Africa in 2005 at the City Hall [please see copy of newspaper report below].

Hit the road, ghosts

By Time of article published Mar 23, 2005  [please see page 1 of the IOL article in JPEG format below].

By Tasnim Langry at: https://www.iol.co.za/news/south-africa/hit-the-road-ghosts-237019

In an effort to curb the sightings of other-worldly spirits from appearing on Durban’s roads, an international organisation hosted a purification prayer on Tuesday.

More than 100 people from various religious denominations arrived outside the Durban City Hall to pray for the “purification” of Durban’s roads on Tuesday.

The purification related to prayer by means of cleansing the roads of earthbound spirits lingering after tragic accidents and suicides.

The prayer was arranged by an international religious organisation based in Frere Road, Glenwood, called Sukyo Mahikari, which was founded by Kotama Okada in Japan 46 years ago.

They are working in conjunction with the KwaZulu-Natal department of transport. Director for Sukyo Mahikari in South Africa, Glen Nettle, said the organisation existed in more than 100 countries.

“We are devoted to improving the life and circumstances of human beings and all living things through the practice of the art of True Light and by living according to universal principles.”

Nettle explained that as much as 80 percent of the problems faced by people in their health and well-being was due to spiritual reasons.

“The practise of the art of True Light removes the accumulation of life-threatening impurities from the body, as well as relieving a person’s soul of spiritual impurities, which many have been born with, inherited from ancestors, or gathered in present lifetime.”

Yesterday’s prayer focused on violent deaths and earthbound spirits that seem to linger on Durban’s roads. Deputy Manager of Road Safety for the KZN Department of Transport, Bonga Mpofu, said his department decided to work with religious groups to promote road safety.

“We have realised that in order to keep our motorists safe we have to work with religious groups because they have clout in the community.

Mpofu said he believed that these cleansing rituals would help rid Durban roads of lurking spirits.

“Prayer definitely helps and as a department we are hoping to pray for not only those who have died on our roads but those who continue to use it every day.”

Mpofu commended participation from members of the Sukyo organisation as they showed initiative to help Durban reduce road fatalities. Sukyo members said they realised there was a problem when reports of “Highway Sheila” and “Redcliffe Sheila” appeared in Post recently.

Okada, who died in 1971, wrote in his books that those who died in war, in battle, by suicide, in accidents and so on, usually become earthbound spirits and cannot leave their immediate vicinity.

“The spirits will remain within a 100m radius of the scene of his or her death until various rituals are conducted to purify their souls,” Okada had said.

He went on to say that the reason there were such things as cursed railway crossings and intersections because such spirits attached to people passing by and pulled them in, in order to increase their numbers.

The belief that spirits exist and that they may become bound to the side of the road or the place of their death is not new in folklore. Nettle said there were reports of a female spirit on the side of the road in the Western Cape, who, when questioned by passers-by wanted to find a relative’s home.

When she disappeared, concerned people reported the incident to the police and were informed that a girl with that description had in fact been killed in the same spot years ago while on her way to a relative’s home.

“Such stories are well known. What is not well known is how much the phenomenon of earthbound spirits influences the rate of road fatalities.

“Sometimes accidents occur time after time with frequent deaths in areas where there is no logical explanation,” said Nettle.

Teachings in the books of Okada state that whether spirits deliberately caused problems to the people they had been attached to or not, their presence alone gives a negative influence.

Disturbance by spirits gave problems ranging from minor inuries and negative moods, to serious injuries, diseases, accidents crime, suicide and other tragedies. Spirits with strong grudges may plot a person’s misfortune over many years and wreak their revenge on the person’s descendants as well.

Spiritual head of the Chinmaya Mission of South Africa, Brahmachari Peetambar, said many people believed at certain levels that tragic accidents caused souls to linger around the place of death. “Sometimes they can even cause harm.”

Peetambar said in the Hindu religion certain rituals would cleanse and purify these spirits.

Commenting on yesterday’s programme, he said: “I believe that any prayer observed faithfully and positively can help, regardless of what religion or faith the prayer is being observed in.”

He said if people were willing to do these purification prayers those who had lost loved ones along with those who had lost their lives would be pacified.

“It will certainly help the community.”

Father Albert Danker of St Anne’s Church in Randles Road, Sydenham, said in his 50 years as a priest he did hear of these incidents being reported which were inexplicable occurrences.

“There is no absolute proof that spirits would want to cause harm to anyone though. Although I don’t deny the existence of spirits, I do believe that Durban needs to be rid of those who abuse alcohol, drugs and other intoxicants before driving on our roads.”

He said he didn’t believe that spirits which were not worthy to enter heaven as yet and roaming the world would want to take revenge on anyone. “God would never do such a thing.”

Newlands West-based Moulana Fahim Khan said he didn’t believe spirits would cause accidents. “I believe that when someone dies their spirit goes to God, so how would it cause harm on earth?”

Durban-based palmist and psychic Faye le Roux said she agreed that spirits lurked in the earthly realm but did not want to cause harm to others. “If this purification programme works, then I’m all for it but I really disagree that spirits would cause harm.

“In society we have grown to believe that unearthly things are scary but in fact some spirits are not even aware that they are dead. As a society we need to move from automatically thinking the worst when seeing spirits.”

Le Roux added that accidents could be caused when motorists saw “ghosts” and were so shocked that an accident could happen.

“The intentions of spirits are really not to scare anyone,” she reiterated.

We did the following purification in Singapore:

Please ask.  It is free.

Bedok Reservoir

The reservoir was labelled online as a “suicide destination”. …….the reservoir saw an unprecedented spate of deaths in 2011 and 2012.

The first death was reported on June 20, 2011, when the decomposed lower half of Chinese national Lin Xiao, 23, was found.

News reports said the apprentice mechanic was depressed after coming to Singapore and had told his mother he would die by jumping into the river.

On Sept 22 that year, the bodies of Madam Tan Sze Sze, 31, and her three-year-old son Jerald Chin, were found floating there. She was said to be distressed over a custody battle with her estranged husband.

Over the next year, at least 5 other bodies were reported to have been found in the reservoir.

Surprisingly, the government took the initiative to engage spiritual service to do spiritual-cleansing at the haunted spot.

Representatives from the Inter- Religious Organisation held a prayer session at the reservoir in 2011, requested by former foreign minister George Yeo, who was a Member of Parliament for the area. Minister Yeo is the person in the yellow shirt sitting in the front row in the centre.

SINGAPORE – The bodies of two men, aged 26 and 28, were retrieved from the Singapore River early on Sunday (April 18).
Police said they were alerted at 1.57am to a case of suspected drowning near 6 Eu Tong Sen Street – the address of Clarke Quay Central.

A spokesman for the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) said it received a call for water rescue at about 2am. Its officers saw no signs of the missing persons upon arrival.

Divers from the SCDF’s Disaster Assistance and Rescue Team (Dart) were deployed to perform an underwater search.
Dart also deployed an underwater remotely operated vehicle to aid the search effort. This allows search operations to be conducted using sonar-imaging equipment that maps out underwater terrain.

“This reduces risks for the divers due to poor visibility underwater, and also reduces search time,” said the SCDF spokesman.

The bodies were found and retrieved by the divers, one at about 4am and the other at about 5.45am.
Both men were pronounced dead at the scene by an SCDF paramedic.

“Based on preliminary investigations, the police do not suspect foul play,” said a police spokesman.
Investigations are ongoing.

SINGAPORE — A body was found in a canal near the Geylang East Park in Aljunied on Friday (Aug 5, 2022) morning, with the police saying that they do not suspect foul play.

In response to TODAY’s queries, the police said that they were alerted to blood stains on the ground near Aljunied Avenue 5 at about 7.40am. Aljunied Avenue 5 runs along the perimeter of Geylang East Park.

Responding officers found a 45-year-old man lying motionless in the vicinity.

TODAY understands that the man’s body was found in a canal in the area.

“(He) was subsequently pronounced dead at (the) scene by Singapore Civil Defence Force paramedics,” the police said.

“Based on preliminary investigations, the police do not suspect foul play. Police investigations are ongoing.”

TheHomeGround Asia — a digital news platform — reported that a Gurkha contingent and a K-9 unit was seen in the area, along with plainclothes police officers.

TODAY has asked the police about the presence of the Gurkha contingent.

Earlier this year, officers from the police’s Gurkha contingent were seen at a crime scene near an Upper Bukit Timah playground where the bodies of 11-year-old twins were found in a canal there.

The boys’ father — Xavier Yap Jung Houn — has since been charged with the murder of his sons.

I remember the drowning case at Chinese Lake Garden in Jurong some few years ago.

Two school boys around 15 years old, one died, the other who had jumped into to help, managed to survive.

The mother went to the Lake to give Divine Light in gratitude.

A spirit manifested in Dojo, and told her off not to come to the Lake again. The spirit said because of her dedication [giving DL for the salvation of others], her son has been saved and allowed to live.

.No accident and no coincidence on earth. Who we meet and the encounters in life with family and non family members in one’s life are not due to coincidence. Who gave us a hard time, pain, suffering or unhappiness was no accident.

Tragic death is the highest form of compensation settlement by humans. We are created and born not to have tragic death. Past misdeeds that humans have accumulated must go through settlement, compensation or payback. No one can change this law of fairness.

The antidote… The universal principle and laws are supreme. The cause and effect are in both, and there are ways provided in both for humankind to correct past misdeeds, even those committed by our ancestors harming other families’ ancestors that no human intellect, wisdom, and actions could overcome, correct and erase as we like and at our whims and fancies. Questions & Answers

When a ghost wants You to die for ‘it’..

When a person died a sudden death, his / her original time of death is not yet reached, the soul can’t make its way to heaven nor  hell. The dead is not given the benefit of a “normal” funeral, but instead, special ritual must be conducted on his / her behalf. It is extremely dangerous to other human beings at the place of unnatural death.

The problem is most people in the world, do not know or don’t believe what the Chinese know, as in, the ghosts of the unnatural death, need to seek for substitutes to replace his/ her position at the location of unnatural / violent death.

Another problem is, even if they know, they can’t access to the proper prayer rituals to spiritual-transcend (超度) the souls of unnatural death.

There are 3 main types of unnatural death:

1) A person who take his / her own life by commiting suicide

When a person died by commiting suicide, his / her soul cannot enter heaven nor hell, as his actual time of death is not up yet. The hell gate doesn’t allow him /her to enter. The spirit of the person is stuck at the same spot of death to repeat the suicide experience again and again.

The ghost will need to lure an unlucky human to die the same manner to replace the ghost (as a substitute), in order for the ghost to move on for reincarnation / rebirth.

2) Death caused by another human being, such as in a murder or an automobile accident

The spot where a fatal car accident has occurred, will likely to be the site of more similar accidents. A person who causes another’s death places himself in grave danger, as the spirit is most likely to seek vengeance, because the soul of the dead died unwillingly. The ghost will need to capture another soul to replace ‘it’, before ‘it’ can moves on for reincarnation.

3) Death caused by a malicious spirit

When a ghost causes the death of a human being, it is usually either to seek revenge, or lure a human to die, in order to replace it’s position, so that ‘it’ can move on.

Happened in Singapore

Police Station

On 2 July 2005, a police officer died by playing ‘Russian Roullette’ with his own revolver in the Yishun North NPC, on the fourth-storey gymnasium. On 16 June 2019, yet another police officer killed himself with a gun shot at the same police station – Yishun North NPC, at the rest area . It took the previous ghost 14 years to find a substitute.

Bedok Reservoir

The reservoir was labelled online as a “suicide destination”. ……saw an unprecedented spate of deaths in 2011 and 2012.

The first death was reported on June 20, 2011, when the decomposed lower half of Chinese national Lin Xiao, 23, was found.

News reports said the apprentice mechanic was depressed after coming to Singapore and had told his mother he would die by jumping into the river.

Many other haunted places:

There are many more haunted places in Singapore that have similar deaths happening at several locations. Keep track on the news and You will notice the patterns, or do Your own research.

Beware of what You say

One man happened to pass by a graveyard and saw a photo of a lady on the tombstone. He said “What a beautiful lady, if she was alive I’d wanted her to be my wife”. Few days later, he rode his motorcycle on the opposite direction on the road and died in an accident – (Ghost covering eyes – 鬼遮眼). His father went to consult a deity ( in trance of a spirit medium) and was told by the deity that a female ghost had took his life to be her husband. A “Ghost Wedding” Ritual was performed for them.

Becoming haunted and unsolved

Even a genuine Feng Shui Master who is based on classical Feng Shui, yet without the knowledge and skill of Taoist Sorcery, doesn’t know how to solve the problems of a huanted house, even if it is a ‘Good’ Feng Shui location.

In certain countries, especially countries with majority who are Chinese, such as Taiwan and Hong Kong, by law, the previous owners must inform the potential buyers, that the house is haunted by a previous unnatural death (suicide / murder) case.

In Singapore, property agents and home sellers are not bound by law to disclose if a suicidal / murder death has taken place in a home.

In Taiwan and Malaysia, with access to Taoist Spirit Medium Worship, there are deities, during Taoist Spirit Medium Procession, that will proceed to the huanted spots and places to do spiritual-cleansing and capture the spirits.

In Singapore, even with majority Chinese, but by law, there is no “Such Thing”, therefore huanted public places are not spiritually-cleansed by spiritual masters nor deities (during trance of Taoist Spirit Mediums). If a ‘spiritual-transcending’ ritual is done on a particular private premise or public place, it is usually private matter, that the Chinese family members of the unnatural dead, engaged a Taoist Master / Monk to do ritual to capture his / her soul and not to harm the other human beings.

Cheng Huang Ye (城隍爷) – From a Water Ghost to a Deity

‘Cheng Huang Ye'(s) are tutelary deities in Chinese folk religion, who protect the people and the affairs of the particular village, town or city of great dimension, and the corresponding afterlife location. There are 5 Levels (五階官) of Cheng Huang(s).

The worshipping of Cheng Huang Ye started during the Tang dynasty. Since the Ming dynasty, Cheng Huang Ye took on the role of a spiritual magistrate. In later era, people also believed that Cheng Huang Ye was being appointed as the Officer for registration of Life and Death in the Mortal World.

When a Chinese person is wrongfully accused of a crime and justice is not settled on human realm, he /she would report to Cheng Huang Ye in the temple to seek justice from the underworld court – 告阴状.

The legend for Cheng Huang Ye is more or less the same, no matter of where he originated from. In order for water ghost to get reincarnated, he needs to find a substitute. One day, this water ghost found a young man as his substitute. But when he sees him, the water ghost knows that this man will become an upright and honest official. Hence he did not take his live but followed him wherever he goes, protecting him.

A few years later, the young man won the top scholar. The emperor deeply appreciates his talent on their first meeting and bestowed drinks to the scholar. Just when the scholar was about to take the first sip, he thought of the water ghost which protects him on his journey. Hence, he took the cup and splash behind the door. Of course, the emperor was angry and demanded for an explanation. The scholar gives his reason and further explains that the water ghost had to hide behind the door as he is naked.

The emperor then took off his cloak and threw it behind the door. The water ghost put on the cloak and shows himself. And because of his loyalty, the emperor bestowed a title to the water ghost. And this appointment became a famous forklore phase – ‘Promotion of the Water Ghost’ (水鬼升城隍).

Conclusion: After reading this article, now You know the reason why ghosts of the huanted places, never move on with their deaths, not that they don’t want but because they can’t. They need to lure some unlucky human folks to die for them to take over their places, or they need to be rescued by Taoist / Buddhist Spiritual Masters, or Taoist Spirit Mediums, by doing spiritual-transending ritual to free their souls.
